March 2006 Archives
Before I list my Everyday Life Series on the net, I'd like to share with you a brief history into what influenced the works.
I have been working on these more mature works since 2003. They are a construction of photographic collage, resin, oils and other mixed media on wood panels or masonite. All the images are of my own photography of landscapes, models, skies, buildings, etc. Most of the artworks have been created using images from my cross-country trip of over 3000 photographs. Couldn't wait to get back and start painting! I have truly put my heart and soul into them.
The U.S. is such a beautiful country. An entire continent of oceans, forests, desserts, mountains, farms and vineyards. Nothing can be truly appreciated without knowing it first. And yes I am a bit partial to my homeland☺
Pictures of the summer 2004 road trip, view below
Rent an RV and travel around- a road trip is in order. It's a great learning experience and will definitely stimulate the creative mind. Obviously couldn't list 3000 images here so i just randomly chose some.

A decade ago I boarded the $15 cheapy Chinatown bus to Boston. And lived there for the summer. Boston is much like Chicago. People don't slouch and live in Posh apartments that are perfectly decorated to their tastes. It's a 4 hour car ride but a world away. Everything is so proper. Luckily my friends weren't.
David will be auctioning off the artwork of my 2 studio assistants- Matt and Sarah. Click here to bid
Baby, the weather is fine. Have a great day!
One night back in my nonchalant, obsessive, disobedient, transvestite, crass, drunken, city and already I'm in love with NYC again.
After dinner, and failure to find a cab, Abe FINALLY admitted his fear of the subway. To be fair i wouldn't know where to begin to take mass transit either. It's not something my parents needed to teach me. After a call to the doorman to send over a car, we headed over to his friend Gary's for a little R&R. But at the corner there were some guys standing around and Abe trying to be cute gestured over to them. Nobody calls over these people unless you're looking for drugs. "What if I am, " was Abe's response. He hasn't heard about the new official government cameras in Washington Sq Park. Now you'll have to find alternate ways to buy. Or just have them delivered to you. Call your local drug dealer for details.
I was in a discussion forum on the net the other day and read the most disturbing comments. Was so perturbed that still I sit here thinking about it. Some accusations were that New Yorkers have all agreed to regard this place as the dead center of the civilized world. Ludicrous, I know. Well, one way to view this is the fact that everything comes to us first- fashion, art, automotives, films. The forum (initiated by someone who has traveled here once) was about life in New York City and how people here are abrasive and harsh, relationships are superficial, drugs and alcohol are what keep the people here going and sex, power and money are what are sought after (so what?) by the so called Manhattan hyper achieving class.
The truth is that maybe living here makes a person a bit cold. And if a relationship or a job doesn't kill you, it does lead to a person developing a barrier - a survival skill learned. On the other hand, New Yorkers although not warm and fuzzy aren't evil either. A couple of weeks ago a few people were chatting about me in an art forum. Was i hurt? Hardly. Laughed it off really. It happens all the time. Does that make me a heartless person? Keeping true to identity, however, I did use my "powers" to have the discussion removed. The comments were mostly false anyway.
Still, the good news is I do have a couple of decades ahead of me before I need to move uptown to become that cynical old lady destiny- in the town without pity- always intended.
Got back from L.A. this afternoon.
Now that I have seriously lifted an overwhelming workload by eliminating my auctions, I have more time to dedicate to the meaningful things in life, i.e. traveling across the country to meet up with friends!
One of my CA buddies had a DJing gig and invited me so i hurried over to a spa to get a tan sprayed on and flew over for the weekend. Then decided to stay a while. I entertained some of my collectors in my west coast studio. If you'd like to schedule a showing, join the "Artwork Updates" mailing list. Didn't waste anytime running some personal errands either. All the important image professionals are in Beverly Hills- my dentist, dermatologist, stylist. Esthetics are important to me, I'm an artist :)
Being in Los Angeles always reiterates to me the significance of superficiality. So I was on beauty.com buying some things and noticed how much time and money I save from reading the product reviews of other customers. Really the best thing to happen to the internet are these RUTHLESS online reviews. Hope the brands are listening.
While in L.A. we also made a nice little video that I will post here once I figure out how to stream it. Will try (or at least get someone else to try) putting it up tomorrow.
Off to join the less cheery- my new york folk. Have a nice evening!
Went to Vin Diesel's screening party last night at China Club for his new film.
Over the weekend we were invited to a party located in a very obscure place on the east side. The red door led into an alley crammed with people. There was no roof thus not covered under the smoking ban law. Dark, smoky and loud.
Abe met up with some guy that was with someone of indeterminable gender. I spent the whole evening trying to figure it out. Apparently this is NY so it doesn't matter and who cares as long as they love eachother. Thanks Abe.
I moved over to more efficient conversation with a guy from nypd- the drama not law enforcement, but I wouldn't know who he was on the series since i never watch tv anyway. Speaking of which, Abe will be on this season's Sopranos for everyone that cares.
My life is about to get much more simple. next week my auctions will officially end giving me more time to work on my art and other plans. Will be overseas this Fall working on a commission and visiting family in Jerusalem. I'll take some art to exhibit there. Looking forward to it all.
I can't believe i step out of my studio and already it's March.
Just been informed that one of my shows has sold out!! Great news for me, bad news for you :)
People are coming down on me because basically this is an art site with no art on it! Well, all that is about to change. The whole site is being redone and the work will be up then with all the exhibit info.
Get out and see art! Art Expo's SOLO section in the Javits Center is loaded with 200+ artists. Support living artists- i'm doing my part.
