fancy pants artists
sunday was very annoying. with pranks and idiots for friends.
if you're an artist who needs a little motivation, read this. oh mr. hirst i had no idea. makes me want to send my portfolio out. which i've never actually done.
today we're heading out to visit some artists in their studios. i've been in the ny art world now for almost 7 (SEVEN!) years. but viewing it from this angle is very different. many artists i know have simply given up after not hearing back from galleries or dealers. but i have to say that choosing artists is not as simple as whether or not the work is well executed- you won't get anywhere if it's not- but mostly if it fits into the gallery's scheme, marketable to their collectors, and so on. and there are so many galleries here that eventually you'll find the right fit. keep producing your art and when you get rejected make more art and wait. there's a chinese proverb that says it takes centuries for dripping water to make a mark on the rock beneath it. be as patient as water on rock. (actually i learned that a while back from kung fu classes but it certainly applies here to some extent).
the hottest place in town is not any bacteria infested bar on the LES but bowery whole foods. can't recall how we survived before it opened. i've run into people there i hadn't seen in months. and on my way there right now.
