(please note emails here do not go through my assistant and if you're not in my contacts i probably won't get them for a few weeks while i'm riding through the desert on my bike or riding the waves and since i won't be online much during the summer, better to use form here: www.elsophia.com/contact)

just came out of a grueling 2+ weeks of jury duty. i knew it would be bad when on the first day the judge asked me if i was 18.
came back to my studio to find my assistants done packing EVERYTHING. the contents will be moved temporarily to wooster st. so we're not taking visitors. to resume in the fall with some MAJOR changes. stay tuned.
also, the websites are getting an overhaul. may be unavailable in the coming weeks.

thought i'd give you some politics as well since you won't be hearing from me for a while.
watched the documentary U.S. vs. john lennon. it's deja vu all over again. yoko ono still has the fire. i've had the distinct pleasure of listening to her speak on a few occasions.
must keep reminding myself there's still hope
fair warning to collectors
after nearly 4 years of non-stop work, i am taking a break and stepping away from painting for a while to concentrate on other projects. updates to follow.
almost mugged
walking yesterday and i was approached by a mugger. i proceeded to give him the lecture his mother never did. if you want something you should ask and stealing puts you in prison. he apologized: "i'm sorry, i'm a bum. just a bum looking to eat."
WACK!
cornelia h. butler is my hero. there's a great article about feminist art in the new art in america magazine in which she states: "the conservative and very scary moment we find ourselves in partly explains the nostalgia for a time when radical statements were possible."edith piaf
watched "la vie en rose" at none other than the paris theater. this is easily one of my favorite movies of all time. i went expecting a sappy love story. but was pleasantly surprised. the movie is nothing short of tumultuous. can't wait to see it again. will be looking up other movies by olivier dahan. the man has great vision.
UPDATE: i actually just looked him up on imdb and he was a painter before taking up film. a sign from the cosmos. and this would explain the eye-candy scenery of his movie. excuse me, i need to go make a new friend :)
just got word that the pieces i'm working on in this series have nearly sold out. the paintings will still be exhibited. and i'll be making more the time i'm here this summer.
peace to everyone who said hi to me in the park. have i really been hiding away for that long? needless to say with the exception of 5 minutes thursday i got no reading done.
friday evening saw "Hidden in Plain Sight: Contemporary Photographs" at The Met. my fave "Cemetery" by Gabriel Orozco.
so how do female heteros measure their sexual worthiness? dress up and walk down 8th ave chelsea. each head you turn at the outside cafes gets you a point. word of caution: this is not for the faint of heart. don't walk with a guy more manicured than you. or that licks his lips at passersby. just leave the guy at home and go it alone. and don't go out with the same outfit on 2 consecutive nights (same diners = waste of time because most date-goers have a contract with the same table).
however you can do it on alternating weekends since we all know relationships in this area don't carry over to the 6th business day.
