ok i'm back but have to leave now

heading overseas and will probably be returning to ny august.

thanks to everyone who stopped by the art and film exhibit saturday, oh and not taking the rock 'n' roll (or the horrendous crowd) too seriously. it was a nice time considering we wont be back in l.a. for a while.

halloween started thursday in provincetown (or ptown as locals like it) before heading back to the city where the holiday is celebrated religiously.

friday night we headed out to brooklyn for a bit to see valentina caniglia's show at gelato art salon. if you're not familiar with her [hardcore] work.. go to her website she's an exceptionally talented cinematographer

saturday we made the rounds. not much to report. cant remember much.

dead people

i feel it is incumbent upon me to tell you that i've dissected cadavars. yup. at nyu medical school i cut open dead people for an anatomy & physiology class. i got an a+

the seas are rough up in cape cod. we spent a day deep sea fishing. my blackberry is now in the belly of a shark.. atleast it's not me. scary seeing 18-foot predators less than a mile off shore. otherwise i'd be sharing some really interesting photos on here.

and the weather is unseasonably warm. and apparently swine flu hasn't hit the city yet.

updating updating

studio/art while i'm still only halfway through my official year-long break from painting been working on paintings however new prints won't be available until the spring.

film screenings to much of their voyeristic delight -we hope- people who attended our last screening in paramus, nj got to see the wrong film. oops. i wasn't there? we're working on new material now for upcoming festivals. so there won't be any new screenings until next spring.

art raw the project space we had hoped to sign didn't go through, the current occupier decided to stay. we're on the search.. just don't expect anything before summer.

website i know. the website has been down most of the summer and in place should have been brand spanking new pages unfortunately they're still being worked on. and i have been told the server crashes on average 2x per day (thanks for visiting), although they're usually up immediately and it goes unnoticed. the new site should be up any day now. if you sent an email you haven't received a response to just resend

there's more but i need to get going. tons of work, emails, things to do.

i'll be in la for the next few days, weeks.. who knows.

we're working on releasing some prints. i'll post when they're ready to purchase.

this fall through 2010, the plan is to stay in asia, mainly china. can't say i'm not excited been working non-stop for the past 6 years. as of this posting i haven't been painting for 27 days :)

the commenters tend to get a bit annoying, esp. when arguing over neighborhood boundaries or proper names. get over it.. for heaven's sake. nice photos however.

not exactly. but there's an exhibit at the rock and roll hall of fame in soho. take a look

and i have to say i was excited to read that the first lady was in town to promote art. so how about we clank those heels where it's truly needed, such as the many art studio buildings in nyc?

believe it or not, i haven't been writing because i actually forgot how to work this blog.

besides i've been taking a much needed break and had some parties and a woodstock wedding to attend. not a very extended hiatus- we're working on some crazy new projects, teeny tiny large in quantity but totally meaningless projects that you may never hear about.

if you were expecting much more, might i remind you that i am not jerry saltz. but i did shoot some pics of gagosian's roof tops from the gallery in chelsea (and bricks that nearly fell on my head the other day). all for your enjoyment.

hello, my name is lemya el sophia, and this is my blog.

in case you're curious i'm still alive, although i had a very bad fall hourse riding this weekend and can barely walk. other than that we're busy on new projects. more later.

the 2 paintings on the front sold but there are a few more. then giving painting a rest for a while. seriously.

the chelsea gallery has eaten up all my time the past few months. we'll be closing for the summer re-opening with scintillating exhibits in the fall. it has been quite a ride. meeting exciting new artists, gallery owners, writers from all over the world. literally. you can read about it on the website.

the past few months have rapidly vanished even by my own standards

and while it is almost 2am and i just got home dead tired, still i sit here keeping my promise.

it's cold. it's warm. then it's cold again. and i would have really loved to spend this year surfing or enjoying Rastafarian cigs or both. for me and a handful of people who will never leave, it's one dive bar then the next.

in all the chaos i have managed to whip up some new art for you. and if you stop by you might catch a glimpse of our new flick as well.

because weather is mundane and the recession is depressing. and there's no doubt, things are changing.

i trust the sky won't cave.

now that the economy's in the toilet and we're all poor, there are things to enthusiastically look forward to..

1) the horrific bush error (actually that was a mistype but seems more appropriate than era) will be over soon, that is until the dynasty continues in 4 or 8 years with brother jeb.

2) most recessions throughout history have lasted 18 months or less, we only have 6 to go. perhaps obama can stop telling us how terrible it all is and scaring us into paralysis.

here's to a better year in 2009 and resolutions we'll never keep. mine, as with every january since its inception, is to do a better job updating this blog.
